Four college scholarships will be awarded at the Nevada Thespian State Conference. All awards will be given upon matriculation to an accredited college or university.
1) One for an outstanding senior theatre students who is planning on majoring or minoring in theatre, technical theatre, film or another related subject. 2) One for an outstanding senior in technical theatre who is planning on majoring or minoring in theatre, technical theatre, film or another related subject. 3) One for an outstanding senior planning to major or minor in education with an emphasis in theatre education. (Maureen Bernstein Theatre Educator Scholarship) 4) One for an outstanding senior who has made major contributions to their school’s theatre program and is not majoring in theatre but has been affected by theatre and will use their education in theatre in their chosen career. (Theatre For Life Scholarship)
SELECTION: Students may apply for acting, technical theatre, theatre education or a combination of the three. Students applying for the Theatre For Life scholarship may not apply for the other scholarships. One interview/audition will be conducted. If you would like to be considered for both acting and technical theatre, please limit your performance to one selection no more than 2 minutes in length and be prepared to present/discuss your portfolio. The panel has up to 5 minutes to ask questions to the scholarship candidate. Nevada State Board members without a troupe affiliation and professional artist/ educators will serve as the selection committee. No troupe director will evaluate an application/ audition. All applicants will audition and be interviewed at the State Conference. All applications must be complete.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications must be completed by March 1, 2017 and submitted on line. No late applications will be accepted. Application must be complete or the student will not be allowed to sign up for an audition timeslot. Registered applicants must come to the registration desk on Thursday or Friday of State Conference to check in and sign up for an audition time slot. Theatre for Life applicants will be assigned a timeslot for their display set up and presentation on Saturday.
Be sure to keep a copy of your application for your own records. Application confirmation will be made via email prior to State Conference.
CRITERIA: Student must be: * a senior graduating in 2017 with an overall GPA of 2.0 or better. * enrolled in a college/ school by September 2017 * a current, active Thespian Troupe member in good standing with ITS Student must submit: * a complete and accurate application, essay, resume and transcript. * an audition / portfolio / interview that indicates a great potential for success in a performing art/ communication field Instructions * get an official transcript from his/her high school, scan it and email with last name and "scholarship" in the subject field, to: email@example.com .
Auditions will be held on Saturday. PREPARE: Auditions for Acting – Present two contrasting monologues or one monologue and one song. Portfolios for Tech – Present a portfolio of pictures and samples from your technical experience. Both Acting and Tech or Theatre Education – Prepare one monologue or one song, no more than 2 minutes in length AND present a portfolio. Theatre For Life – Prepare and present a display. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Actors have 3 minutes to present two contrasting monologues or one monologue and one song Technicians will have up to 3 minutes to present their portfolio. Actor/Techs and Theatre Education applicants have a total of 5 minutes to present BOTH their monologue/song and their portfolio. Judges have 5 additional minutes interview the applicants.
